North Chicago called for a second alarm after responding to fire in a vacant hotel building about 10:20 a.m. Monday. The Knights Inn hotel had been vacant for at least two years. The second alarm which was dispatched about 10:30 a.m. was elevated to a third alarm at 11:40 a.m.
MABAS Division 4 firefighters from Gurnee, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest and Great Lakes, Highwood, Knollwood, Libertyville, Newport, Waukegan, Zion were called to the scene or were requested to protect North Chicago by standing by in North Chicago fire stations.
