VIDEO: Police arrest suspect in retail theft at Mariano’s Fresh Market at Market View Apartments in the 0-99 block of North Dryden about one block north of Mariano’s.
Arlington Heights police responded about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday to a report of retail theft from Mariano’s Fresh Market, 802 East Northwest Highway. Police received a report that a man in his 30’s stole unknown items and was walking northbound on Dryden from Kensington. Two store managers from Mariano’s were following the suspect and observing his direction of travel, and reporting the locations to police.
The first police unit arrived almost immediately and the officer was informed that the suspect slipped into the 27-29 building on North Dryden — Marketview Apartments.
Police were in the process of checking the six-to-eight units that are in the building, when the suspect was apprehended. One officer carefully checked inside a first floor window with a flashlight looking for the suspect and/or the proceeds inside the apartment.
Seconds later, what appeared to be a dark green Mariano’s hand basket filled with products was carried out by one police officer. Then, the male suspect was handcuffed, walked to an awaiting police car, and transported to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters.
Police were collecting evidence and investigating the case Wednesday night. The value of the products are initially thought to be about $90.
Too bad for him, he’ll never be allowed in the greatest store ever!
