RECENT REPORTS OF BURGLARIES FROM MOTOR VEHICLES NEAR FITNESS CENTERS AND SPORTS FIELDS
The Palatine Police Department is investigating several similar incidents which occurred on Wednesday, July 20th, 2011 between 7:00pm-7:57pm and Thursday, July 21st, 2011 between 11:00am-11:20am at the Midtown Athletic Club (1760 N. Hicks Rd, Palatine, IL). In all incidents the offender(s) shattered the front passenger or driver side SUV windows and removed purses, a laptop computer and a tennis racquet.
A small light-colored four door vehicle was seen driving back and forth through the parking lot just prior to the burglaries on Thursday, July 21st, 2011.
In Buffalo Grove, two vehicle burglaries were reported Thursday, July 21 and three on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
It is unknown at this time if the burglaries are related to those which occurred in 2011 even though the method of operation was similar – fitness centers, front windows shattered, target vehicles were SUVs and purses were targeted.
Residents are being warned and reminded not to allow valuables to be visible from outside of their vehicles.

Arlington Heights Police Department: Six (6)
Northbrook Police Dept: One (1)
Lake Zurich Police Department: Six (6)
Winnetka Police Dept: Five (5)
Morton Grove Police Dept: One (1)
Palatine Police Dept: Six (6)
Des Plaines Police Dept: Eight (8)
Other communities were also affected. The crime spree was possibly connected to Florida-based identity theft ring.
