VIDEO: Multi-vehicle crash on northbound Route 53, south of Rand Road.
Palatine firefighter/paramedics and Illinois State Police responded about 1:35 p.m. Monday to a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Route 53, south of Rand Road. Palatine command called for a second ambulance immediately based on report of multiple vehicles and possibly serious injuries. Rolling Meadows firefighter/paramedics and Palatine firefighter/paramedics brought an ambulance to the scene.
Multiple vehicles had air bag deployment. Possibly at least two people were transported to the hospital, and injuries did not appear serious — but no confirmation of those details.
Route 53 was down to one northbound lane. The crash scene was extended to almost one-eighth mile with two spinouts on the south sector and possibly two vehicles that continued northbound for awhile. Palatine’s firefighters first on the scene reported four or five cars on the inside lanes of northbound Route 53 in the crash.
Response units included a tower ladder, a quint, a rescue squad, two rescue ambulances and a battalion chief. The roadway was clear after about 2:30 p.m.
