Heavy rain is impacting areas south of Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs. Thunder is rumbling throughout Chicagoland this morning, but the heavier thunderstorms are located in southern Cook County, northern Will County, and southern Kane County. The northwest suburbs are affected by FLOOD WARNING BULLETIN issued for the Des Plaines River near Des Plaines. The Du Page River is also included in the National Weather Service FLOOD WARNING.
The northwest suburbs are also under a Flash Flood Watch as conditions exist in our area that could bring the development of thunderstorms later today which could bring new heavy rain amounts. A cold front is expected by 1:00 p.m. with clearing of rain by 2:00 p.m. Clouds are expected to break around midnight with clearing and low 70’s after midnight.
In summary, the FLASH FLOOD WARNING, which occurs from immediate rain that causes runoff and overflowing in viaducts, rivers, streams, ponds and lakes, is affecting areas south of the northwest suburbs. A FLOOD WARNING, which is a slower event caused by rising river levels, is affecting the northwest suburbs in Des Plaines.
