Antonio Crawford has been charged with attempting to rob a Prospect Heights bank at about 4:42 p.m. Tuesday July 19. He may also face charges for robbing a taxi driver.
Prospect Heights police responded at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday to a bank holdup alarm from a teller station at Village Bank, 1845 East Rand Road. Police arrived within two minutes and were told that the offender had fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction, but he may have fled toward Arlington Heights.
The offender had handed a note to the teller that demanded money. The offender did not get any money because he was told money was in the secured vault. Instead he fled with a bank manager’s bank debit card or credit card. The offender was described as a male/black, approximately 22-years-old, 5’11″ 160 LBS, wearing a winter hat with a bill (like a baseball cap), a light-blue T-shirt with a white undershirt, black pants and white gym shoes.
A forgotten soup kitchen ID from New York is helping make a case for arrest of Antonio Crawford, 29, who apparently attempted to used the bank card and accompany it with his soup kitchen ID for a getaway in a taxi cab. When the bank card was denied, Crawford pulled out a 9-millimeter handgun and took $100 from the center console of the taxi cab and fled the cab after a taxi ride from the area of Thomas Street and Rand Road in Arlington Heights to the 1200 block of South Ashland about 6:30 p.m. While fleeing the cab, he left his soup kitchen identification card and the bank card in the taxi. The cab driver called the Chicago police and provided police with the bank card and the identification card. On Saturday, police arrested Antonio Crawford, locating him with information on the identification card. Crawford was also identified by the taxi cab driver.
