Inverness police and Palatine Rural firefighter/paramedics responded to a report about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 that a group of about 50 students were fighting at South Park by Clover Drive and Thompson’s Way. Police also received a report that teens were fleeing in all directions before police arrived. Thirty to forty cars were also reported to be parked near the area.
The stabbing victim was transported by a personal vehicle to Northwest Community Hospital and arrived at the hospital by 4:30 p.m. The victim was reported to have been stabbed in the side of the torso with a pocket knife by a student from Fremd High School. After arriving at the emergency department, the victim was taken into surgery immediately to check for damage to vital organs as a result of the stabbing.
The 16-year-old Fremd student was released into the custody of his parents.
No word on any arrests at the scene, but police were stopping some vehicles as they discovered several vehicles leaving the scene. Some of the subjects at the scene may have been from Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates. Teens were fleeing in all directions — on foot and in vehicles. Police learned the fight was originally scheduled to occur in Hoffman Estates before it was moved to South Park, just east of Ela Road in Inverness.
Palatine police assisted Inverness police — responding to the incident and assisting with investigation.
