Union Pacific Northwest Line trains are moving in both directions after a crash Friday near Mount Prospect Road closed down the line. Delays of about delays of about 30 minutes were experience Friday during the evening rush hour, Metra says
SERVICE ALERT FROM METRA
This morning one of our Metra trains on the Union Pacific Northwest Line struck a quarry gravel truck in Mt. Prospect. Train #636 was inbound towards Chicago when the accident occurred. The lead car of the train derailed but remained upright. We do not know the exact cause of the accident.
The accident resulted in the death of the truck driver and some passengers reported minor injuries. The engineer of the train was also injured and taken to a local hospital.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the driver’s family and those injured.
The accident delayed this morning’s commuter service on the Union Pacific Northwest Line. We have been working with the Union Pacific railroad on the investigation and cleanup of the accident site. Because of the derailment, afternoon service on the Union Pacific Northwest Line will be delayed.
I visited the accident site and I would like to thank all the emergency responders and all the Union Pacific and Metra employees who assisted our customers during this difficult day.
