Buffalo Grove Fire Department Fire Inspector Arthur “Skip” Hart passed away the evening of May 25, 2011 after a long battle with cancer.
Served from Korea to Cary to Mount Prospect to Buffalo Grove
Skip, as he was known to thousands, served as an Army Combat Medic in Korea from 1970-1972. He returned home to Illinois and opened a camera shop, and in 1978 he began his career as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Cary Fire Protection District. Arthur “Skip” Hart left Cary as a Lieutenant in 1992 and began his second career as a Fire Inspector and Public educator for the Mount Prospect Fire Department. In 1995 Skip joined the Buffalo Grove Fire Prevention Bureau and according to the official release from Buffalo Grove Fire Department, “brought the Buffalo Grove Public Education Program to new heights.”
Skip was president of the Illinois Fire Inspector’s Association in 1997, a Juvenile Fire Setter’s Counselor, Instructor for the Inspector’s Association, and was a State Certified Fire Investigator.
Skip received the Dick Arthur Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006; the Lonnie Jackson Award for Excellence in Public Education in 2007; and was the first member of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department to receive Firefighter of the Year in 2009.
