When Jesus appeared to the Eleven (disciples), He rebuked them for their lack of faith and “their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.” Mark 16:14
After Jesus had risen, Mary Magdala wasn’t thinking “resurrection”. She thought someone had taken His body somewhere. She was weeping at the empty tomb when Jesus spoke to her. Luke 24:10 says the group who found the empty tomb consisted of “Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them”.
When Mary Magdalene ran and told the disciples, “they did not believe it”. Mark 16:11.
According to the Canonical gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Day or Easter Sunday. The chronology of his death and resurrection is variously interpreted to be between AD 26 and 36, traditionally 33.
Easter marks the end of Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of the Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Eastertide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday.
Easter occurs on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox.
