Video: Brookings, Oregon Port Damage, Aftermath of Sendai, Japan Earthquake

FRI MAR 11 2011 — A powerful earthquake stuck the coast off of Japan. The earthquake generated a large tsunami causing wide spread damage. At approximatley 7:31 am large ocean waves from the Sendai, Japan Earthquake traveled across the pacific ocean and struck the west coast of Oregon and California.
Brookings Oregon sustained severe damage to its port causing fishing vessels, pleasure boats and sailboats to break free of their moorings. The smell of deisel was punget in the air as we were able to travel down to the port of Brookings. Docks were torn apart along with numerous half and fully sunk boats in the harbor. Numerous rescue personnel were on hand to help the victims of the tsunami. One man was reported killed, and four beachcombers survived after being suck into the Pacific Ocean.
Crescent City also sustained major port damage from the tsunami and was declared a state of emergency.
