Kathy Hoffman, of Lake Barrington, and wife of Harper College trustee Dick Hoffman, was struck and killed about 2:50 p.m. Thursday by a vehicle that careened of Rand Road into drive away area of a commercial car wash.
A 40-year-old male driver from downstate Chatsworth was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo southbound on Rand when the SUV left the roadway and went into the car wash’s driveway near Honey Lake Road, just past Paulus Park.
Hoffman was on the private drive of the car wash, entering her 2010 Volkswagen GTI, after getting her car washed when the Jeep struck her and her GTI. The Jeep then crashed into a 2010 Acura sport-utility vehicle outside the car wash. The Acura driver was not injured. Kathy Hoffman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jeep driver was released Friday from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington.
The accident is under investigation including toxicology results from the Jeep driver’s blood sample and accident reconstruction data collected at the scene.
Harper College Trustee Dick Hoffman was first elected to Harper’s board in 2005 and is president and co-owner of Atomatic Mechanical Services Inc. in Arlington Heights.
