DAYTONA 500 SUNDAY 12 PM ET on FOX — The Super Bowl of racing, the Daytona 500, is set for Sunday on a fast track that features a newly repaved surface. The race kicks off the 2011 NASCAR season. The AP’s Robert Ray reports.
The 2011 Daytona 500 is a 500 miles (804.7 km)-long NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race held annually at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is one of four restrictor plate races on the Cup schedule. Jamie McMurray is the defending champion of the race. Contested over 200 laps on the 2.5-mile (4.0 km) asphalt tri-oval. The 2011 Daytona 500 will be the first race of the 2011 Sprint Cup Series season.
