Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:35 p.m. Sunday to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of East Reynolds Drive in Palatine. First neighbors heard a popping noise and reported a disturbance to police. Then police received a report that Edward Kuemper, of 1540 E. Reynolds Dr. shot his teenage daughter’s boyfriend in the head in the front yard. The boyfriend’s identity has been reported to be Bradley Morrison, age 21, of 4013 Bonhill Drive in unincorporated Arlington Heights – about two miles north of the crime scene. Police arrived on the scene within three minutes. As police arrived, they learned there was a report of a second shooting victim, Ed Kuemper, who apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

At first impression of the scene, police were working on leads that the crime is a murder-suicide.

Police secured the daughter and neighbors, and made sure the house was cleared of danger. Police also made sure the weapon was discovered and secured.

Palatine Fire Department firefighter/paramedics responded to the scene with two rescue-ambulances. One paramedic confirmed for the police that both victims were deceased. Each rescue-ambulance left the scene without any patients.

A white sheet was placed on the ground near some front steps on the left side of the steps — facing the house. It is unknown if the sheet was covering the body of Brad Morrison, but it seems likely. Edward Keumper’s body was also found in the front yard.

There was a steady rain during investigation. A small sedan was parked on the driveway with the driver’s side door open and interior light on. A pickup truck was also parked on the driveway closer to the east side of the house.

Palatine police are investigating the crime scene. At least eight marked and unmarked police cars were on the scene. Reynolds Drive was blocked at Anderson Drive and on the west side of the crime scene.

Both men were pronounced dead by the Robert J. Stein Institute of Forensic Medicine — the Office of Medical Examiner for Cook County.

Apparently Christine Keumper, Edward’s estranged wife, came to the house to pickup a family dog. Edward Keumper’s daughter and her boyfriend, Bradley Morrison, arrived later. Edward was attempting the others from taking the dog, when he shot Bradley Morrison and then himself. Christine Keumper’s address was listed at the same location as the daughter’s boyfriend.
