Elderly Man, Luciano Medina, Critically Injured While Preparing to Board Miami-Dade Transit Bus
A 90-year-old man in South Florida is in critical condition after an SUV runs him over while he waits at a bus stop. The collision is captured on a security camera inside the city bus. The driver of the SUV later flees the scene.
Miami police and paramedics responded about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to a hit-and-run SUV vs. pedestrian incident at a bus stop at Southwest 40th Avenue and West Flagler Street, about two blocks away from the vicim’s home.
Police arrived to find bystanders helping Luciano Medina, 91, with severe trauma to his legs, chest and head.
Luciano was about to board a bus when a Toyota SUV jumped the sidewalk and struck him.
Video from the Miami-Dade Transit bus showed Luciano Medina stepping toward the bus doors, and then practically vanish as a video captured the incident.
The driver of the SUV driver stepped out of the Toyota, casually walked away, and then fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood before police arrived.
Medina was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.
Luciano Medina was apparently on his way to visit his wife, who is in a nursing home.
