Buffalo Grove police responded at 1:05 a.m. Thursday to an armed robbery at the Mobil gas station, 1248 North McHenry Road. Two men — one subject armed with a black semi-automatic handgun — held up the gas station at the northwest corner of McHenry Road and Arlington Heights Road and fled on foot.
An employee at the gas station reported that two men ordered him to open the cash register. The suspects then took about $50 in cash and several cartons of cigarettes. The offenders also took the victim’s wallet and his cell phone.
One offender was described as a male/white and the other was described as a male/Hispanic. Both offenders were described as 5′ 2″ with thin builds. One wore a blue jacket and one wore a white jacket — possibly with dark clothing underneath. The suspects also wore dark bandannas and baseball caps, which covered their faces.
The suspects were last seen heading southbound on foot from the gas station. No vehicle associated with the offenders was observed in the area.
Arlington Heights Police Department sent a K-9 unit to assist Buffalo Grove police. The K-9 unit had a scent up to the parking lot of an adjacent strip mall, where scent was lost.
Arlington Heights police and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies also set up a perimeter with extra Buffalo Grove police officers for a period of time after the armed robbery occurred.
