Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan issued a safety alert on December 22, 2010 warning consumers of the dangers of utilizing baby crib bumpers due to potential strangulation hazards.
The Attorney General’s office recently distributed a safety alert to groups including hospitals, public health agencies, advocacy organizations, retailers and trade groups asking them to spread the word to parents and other caregivers that crib bumpers are dangerous.
The Attorney General’s office has also launched a public awareness campaign telling parents not to use bumper pads, which can cause babies and infants to suffocate because they lack the strength and motor skills to turn their heads if find themselves positioned against something that blocks their breathing.
