Hoffman Estates firefighter/paramedics and police responded at 7:37 p.m. Thursday to a head-on crash involving a person trapped in a car and a vehicle fire on Golf Road about 200 yards west of Bartlett Road. Some Hoffman Estates fire equipment left the scene about 8:20 p.m. However a truck with a crash scene light remained for a prolonged investigation at the scene, where wreckage from a Jaguar and a Hyundai and scattered debris were surrounded by rescue workers and investigators.
A man in his 30’s is reported to be killed in the crash. Police report that the driver of the Jaguar was ejected during the crash and transported to St. Alexius Medical Center. A woman was trapped in a Hyundai, which burst into flames in the crash. The woman was dead at the scene.
A third person is reported to be injured and transported to St. Alexius Medical Center. There is no confirmation that a third person was transported to the hospital.
There is also a report that a third vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene. Police were searching for a male driver of a 2002 blue Subaru 4-door that was last seen fleeing westbound on Golf Road. The driver was wanted for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The vehicle and driver were in police custody about 10:45 pm. However, the police have not charged the driver, and the crash is not being investigated as a hit-and-run.
Golf Road was blocked for a prolonged period at Bartlett Road and at Sutton Road (Route 59).
Streamwood police assisted Hoffman Estates police at the crash scene.
