Arlington Heights police and Palatine firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:50 p.m. Thursday to a report from a BMW assist operator of a rollover crash involving a BMW at Palatine Road and Route 53.
Palatine firefighter/paramedics reported a rollover crash with a man trapped inside the vehicle with minor injuries. The rollover crash crumpled the doors on both sides, preventing the man from getting out of the vehicle on his own. Firefighter/paramedics were able to pop a door in about five minutes and rescue the man from the vehicle.
The rollover occurred at the onramp from eastbound Palatine Road to northbound Route 53.
BMW Assist is a vehicle telematics system similar to GM’s Onstar service. BMW Assist can provide turn-by-turn directions, remote unlocking, vehicle diagnostics, airbag deployment notification, theft recovery and notification for towing or flat tire repair. BMW Assist has received some criticism on theft recovery because the service requires that a police report is filed before the tracking information is made available.
Illinois State Police investigated the crash.
