Just before 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Broadview police were tracking a reported stolen auto with updates from Onstar. The Onstar updates were relayed by the Illinois State Police. A black Chevy Malibu was reported stolen from Huntley, Illinois in McHenry County about 5:10 p.m. The OnStar tracking was activated and a signal was picked up eastbound on Interstate 290. About 5:45 p.m., the tracking information was relayed to all police units in the Chicago area. The vehicle was eastbound on I-290 when a Broadview police unit caught sight of the Malibu about 5:50 p.m. The stolen vehicle exited near Harlem Avenue before the Broadview police squad could get near it.

Oak Park and Forest Park police were alerted that the vehicle had exited I-290 in the area of their jurisdictions. The vehicle was northbound on Harlem, eastbound on Jackson Blvd, southbound on Grove, then northbound on Grove, and eastbound on Garfield Street. The stolen vehicle was then stopped by several Oak Park and Forest Park police squads at Garfield and Ridgeland.

The driver, possibly a female, was transported in custody to an Oak Park Police Department building. The stolen vehicle was also towed to an Oak Park Police Department holding area for investigation.

The pursuit and traffic stop occurred about 12 hours after a 45-minute pursuit of a taxi cab that was stolen in a vehicular hijacking at about 6:10 a.m. near a Subway restaurant at Rand and Miner Street in Des Plaines. That pursuit ended with a crash and arrest at North Clark and West Columbia in the Rogers Park neighborhood.
