Vladislav Pobyegayev, 17, appeared in court today on a charge of aggravated battery to a police officer after he injured a police officer with his car as the officer tried to question him.

Two undercover Arlington Heights police officers were in the process of arresting an adult female on prostitution charges in the 2400 block of North Kennicott Avenue about 10:25 p.m. Friday when they discovered three male/white subjects and one female/white in possession of cocaine. The three men and one woman were in a car parked in a parking lot of the Greenbriar Condominiums. The male driver was described as in his late teens or early 20’s with short, brown, wavy hair. The front seat passenger was a female with shoulder-length black hair, and wearing a dark jacket. The police officers reported that the dashboard and armrest inside the car were apparently covered with cocaine.

One of the officers approached the car to question the group after seeing a white powdery substance on the console, but the driver backed up rapidly and recklessly.

The police officer ended up on the hood of the car and began hitting the windshield with his police handgun but was thrown off the car when the driver placed it in forward and sped away, according to Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Cotter.

The police officer, whose name was not released, suffered a strained leg muscle and was treated at Northwest Community Hospital. The officer went to the hospital immediately after the incident, but was not transported by paramedics.

Subjects in the vehicle and/or the driver were wanted for possession of a controlled substance and aggravated assault or aggravated battery of a police officer. Police throughout the northwest suburbs were on the lookout for the offending vehicle, which was described as a 1996 red or maroon Chrysler 2-door vehicle with a crack in the windshield. The vehicle was last seen southbound on Kennicott Avenue, and possibly eastbound on Palatine Road.

Vladislav Pobyegayev, of the 1000 block of Valley Stream Drive, was arrested very early the next morning. An alert Buffalo Grove police officer discovered the offending vehicle from the aggravated assault of a police officer eastbound on Dundee Road about 2:35 a.m. Saturday. The car was followed into Wheeling and stopped with multiple police units at Sarasota and Berskhire. Two subjects were arrested in custody. Several Arlington Heights police units also arrived. Both suspects were transported in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department headquarters. The driver’s vehicle was towed to Arlington Heights Police Department headquarters.

According to Cotter, the teen told police that he got scared and sped off because he had cocaine in the vehicle. Vladislav Pobyegayev’s bond was set at $75,000 on Monday.

The female arrested for prostitution at the original crime scene was transported in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department headquarters a shortly before 11:00 p.m.
