Ladd Fire Department and the Illinois State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Route 89 and mile marker 71. No serious injuries were reported, but extrication was reported (number of extrications unknown). Nine semi-trailer trucks and 16 other vehicles crashed. Some of the trucks severely damaged.
The driver who was trapped in his truck was carrying a semi-trailer loaded with bags of ice-melt. One of the photos shows a pile of bags of ice melt on the roadway.
Four-foot drifts and reduced visibility closed I-80 west of Peoria. Interstate 55 was also closed near Springfield, Illinois.
Another crash occurred just before noon in Hampshire in Kane County at Route 72 near French. A 3rd Alarm EMS box was requested for the crash.
A crash also occurred on Interstate 55 at the 227 Mile Marker about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Multiple ambulances responded to that crash.
