Wheeling police responded about 2:00 PM Tuesday to a report of a home invasion in progress in the 1300 block of Horizon Trail in Wheeling. Wheeling police received a report of a home invasion with residents being battered inside of the home. Police also received reports that two suspects were running together in backyards after they fled the home.
Booth Tarkington Elementary School, 310 Scott Street, was placed in lockdown until about 2:45 p.m. Police searched homes in the area, Indian Trails Public Library, and Our Saviour Evangelical Free Church and Living Hope Evangelical looking for suspects.
The suspects were described as a male 6’0” thin with a shaved head. The second subject was described as a male 5’7” stocky build, wearing black pants.One was wearing a white T-shirt, and one was wearing all black. One might have been wearing a mask. There also might have been a quick change of clothes.
One suspect — the larger suspect, wearing a white shirt — was apprehended about 2:10 p.m. near one of the churches near Schoenbeck and Anthony Road.

The suspect at large was last seen heading east from the library — possibly headed toward the West Dunhurst area near Thelma Court or Fletcher Drive. Wheeling police are investigating, and continued a thorough search of the area.
