Dear Paul,
I believe that I have always been a good friend. I recently was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and I rarely hear from several of my really close friends. One really close friend who always called me with her problems actually sent me a post card. How cold is that? She lives 7 blocks away. I was always there for people, and now they don’t seem to care. What gives with people?
Shel

Everyone LOVES a winner, don’t they? So now that you could use some moral support, they disappear. I guess they weren’t such good friends. You sound like a giving person, who is always there for friends, family, etc., which is wonderful. However, you must ask for and receive equal treatment. Do not just give until it hurts, because there are gives and TAKERS — you apparently “were” expecting these frauds to actually respond as you would have to them. Relationships must be a two way street, Shel. Don’t allow yourself to be used any longer. When you beat your cancer (and I know you will), you know these TAKERS will come back for the “happy times.” Personally, I wouldn’t give them the time of day. Good luck buddy, my hopes and prayers are with you, and you know that I really mean it!
