Mago, a new restaurant in downtown Arlington Heights opened recently at 155 W. Campbell St. in the Metropolis Theatre building location that used to feature Carlos & Carlos.
Talent and experience in the culinary department arrives from chefs and owners Juan Luis Gonzalez, of Fuego Mexican Grill and Ric Munoz, who was chef at The Grand Station, both on Campbell Street.
Fuego underwent a change in management in March 2010 and became Salsa 17 Mexican Grill.
Mago does not have a liquor license, so diners are welcome to bring their own bottles of alcohol. The owners hope to obtain a liquor license in the future.
Mago, which means “magician” in Spanish, features Mexican and Latin cuisine with some magical improvisation.
Menu items include …
classic fire-roasted pepper salsa
complimentary habanero peanut salsa and a tomatillo avocado variation
nine varieties of tacos and burritos, enchiladas and fajitas
pork chop with shiitake mushrooms
Argentinian-inspired beef filet topped with roasted chili butter.
For lunch
tortas
a Cuban-style burger
jibarito or plantain sandwiches.
Mago is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
