Arlington Heights police received a reports about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday that manhole covers were missing or ajar in the area of Burning Tree Lane and Burr Oak Drive and the 100 block of West Appletree Lane. Other addresses included the 500 block of East Hackberry, the 200 block of East Tanglewood and the 900 block of West Berkley. Police confirmed that manhole covers were missing. At least one was found ajar. Other communities have experienced theft of manhole covers recently.
The crimes are reported to have occurred between Tuesday, October 5th, 2010 at 1:00 a.m. and Wednesday, October 13th, 2010 at 11:00 p.m.
Police stood by until police barricades were put in place.

Three Lake Zurich residents faced felony charges after they were accused of stealing 23 manhole covers for metal scrap. Ruth M. Driscoll, 21, and Timothy E. Munts, 22, both of the 23000 block of North Lakewood Lane, and Craig R. Scarton, 25, who also lives on the same block, but a different address, were charged with theft of the manhole covers.
