Wauconda Fire Department called a Box Alarm to the fourth level at Rand Road and Case Road about noon Tuesday for three barn fires. High winds and lack of local water supply were major factors in the the fire spreading from one barn to the two other barns — all of which were destroyed. Firefighters were originally called out just before 11:30 a.m. and a MABAS Box Alarm to the second level was immediately requested by Wauconda Fire Department.
Fire Departments from as far as Arlington Heights, which sent a rescue-ambulance to the scene, were called to assist the Wauconda Fire District. Fire departments from Buffalo Grove, Fox Lake, Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, Palatine Rural, Mundelein, Knollwood, Lake Villa, Long Grove, Waukegan and others totalling 30 fire departments also assisted Wauconda Fire Department.
Firefighters had to shuttle water in tender or water tanker trucks to extinguish the fires.
