Buffalo Grove Police Department photo of alligator captured near Pinehurst Lane and Fox Hill Drive.
Buffalo Grove police responded about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday — amid storm damage reports and downed trees and powerlines — to a report of an alligator or crocodile in the front yard of a home in the 600 block of Pinehurst Lane near Fox Hill Drive. After a prolonged search, police found a juvenile 3-foot alligator with yellow striping.
Police officers used a garbage can, a net and a Com Ed Extendo Stick (pole/stick), on loan from Com Ed crews working on power outages in the area, to capture a 3-foot alligator that was discovered in a front yard. Police officers estimate the animal weighed 25 pounds.
