A train incident just before 6:00 a.m. Wednesday was a ‘suicide by train’ incident by a Barrington High School male in the senior class. A 17-year-old Barrington High School senior was struck by an eastbound Metra passenger train.
Train #606, scheduled to arrive in Arlington Heights at 6:10 a.m. and Chicago at 7:02 a.m., was stopped at Barrington, just north of the train station, due to a pedestrian accident that killed the pedestrian. The accident occurred between Hart Road and Route 59.
Train #608, scheduled to arrive in Arlington Heights at 6:38 a.m. and Chicago at 7:17 a.m., was stopped north of Barrington due to a pedestrian incident that has temporarily halted train movement past the Barrington station. Doors on some of the trains were opened after the trains were stopped and people were getting off the trains to walk or find other transportation. Train #606 was due in Barrington at 5:55 a.m. The accident occurred sometime between 5:55 a.m. and 6:15 a.m.
Barrington police responded to the incident, which is under investigation with the assistance of the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County (MCAT).
