Arlington Heights police received a report about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday of a burglary at the Teen Center, 112 North Belmont Avenue. The crime is reported to have occurred overnight. Arlington Heights police are investigating.
UPDATE: BURGLARY: An unknown offender or offenders climbed to to the roof, pried the roof hatch and entered the building. They damaged the hatch, lock, kitchen ceiling light and several tiles. The offender(s) left through the south side doors.
The crime is reported to have occurred between Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 at 8:00am and Wednesday, August 11th, 2010 at 10:15am.

Burglary Prevention Tips …
Don’t keep a house key hidden outside.
Keep irreplaceable items in a high quality fire resistant safe or in off-site safety deposit box.
Maintenance … Keep trees and shrubs trimmed to prevent anyone from hiding near your house. Don’t let mail or newspapers pile up. Avoid leaving a driveway or sidewalk with snow cover for prolonged periods. Burglars look for these signs.
Exterior Doors
Install heavy duty dead bolts and reinforced door jams.
Install exterior doors at least 1-3/4 inch thick and made from solid wood or reinforced with metal.
Door locks that can be reached internally by breaking a window should have a keyhole, not a latch, on the inside.
Reinforce sliding glass doors with a stick or rod. Prevent sliding glass doors from being lifted out of frame.
Keep exterior doors well lit.
Prevent access through a mail slot, dryer vent, or pet entrance.
Garage
Keep your car locked inside the garage.
Use a heavy duty dead bolt on interior door between the garage and the house.
Automatic door openers.
Change the security code from the preinstalled settings.
Windows
Use devices that lock windows in the frame in the closed and open position.
Inventory
Take a household inventory, preferrably with video documentation.
Mark important items with permanent identifying mark, such a a driver’s license number.
Alarm System …
Professionally Installed
Use an alarm system that is connected to a 24-HR security monitoring center that notifies the police department in case of alarm activation.
Test your alarm regularly and keep your emergency contact numbers updated.
