David Kyle Murch, a 19-year-old Schaumburg resident, was arrested during traffic stop in Elk Grove Village Sunday by FBI agents and Schaumburg police officers, and charged with traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illicit sexual contact with a minor. David Murch is being held without bond in Chicago at the Metropolitan Correctional Center after authorities said he traveled to Niagara Falls, New York for an arranged meeting with a 15-year-old Georgia girl. Murch was involved with the minor in an online relationship. Murch then drove her back to Illinois without her family’s knowledge. Investigators traced her cell phone usage in northwest suburban Schaumburg, Illinois.
Police said Murch had an online relationship with the girl and then arranged to meet her in New York state while she was visiting her grandparents. Her family reported her missing on Saturday, and police and FBI agents traced her back to the Chicago area partially from records showing her cell phone was being used in Schaumburg on Sunday morning. The juvenile female was also traced by bank records revealing unauthorized use of her grandfather’s debit card in Western New York and Ohio Saturday morning.
The girl was found unharmed in Murch’s apartment in Schaumburg at 201 Travis Court and has been reunited with her parents, according to law enforcement officials.
Murch is scheduled to be sent to Buffalo, New York, to face the charge against him, and faces up to 30 years in prison if he is convicted.
