Wilmette police received a report that a man tried to push an 11-year-old girl into his car in an alley near Sheridan Road and Lake Avenue in Wilmette at about 2:10 p.m. Saturday. The man drove a late-model black Audi sedan close to the girl from the opposite direction and stopped. He yelled out to the girl that she should “get inside the car.” When she refused to get into the car, the man walked quickly around the car and tried to push her into his car.
The girl was able to run away while screaming and escape harm.
The offender is described as a male/white, 6’0″ to 6’2″ 160 pounds with straight medium-length brown hair and some gray hair, and brown eyes. The offender was wearing a plain white t-shirt and blue jeans, rectangular glasses with black frames, and a watch with a black band on his left wrist.
Willmette has placed extra patrols in the area.
The incident occurred one week after a suspicious man was reported following or getting close to two lone female joggers in two separate incidents — Saturday on Green Bay Trail near Tower Road, and Sunday near Sheridan Road and Maple Street in Winnetka (See The Cardinal Suspicious Man Near Running Routes in Winnetka Prompts Police Alert).
Any citizens with information about the incident are asked to call the Wilmette Police Department at 847-256-1200 or call Detective Roger Ockrim at 847-853-7558.
