Arlington Heights police received a report about 9:00 p.m. Monday of an armed robbery near the Jewel at Vail Avenue and Wing Street. Police learned, allegedly, that two offenders that were posing as drug dealers demanded money from a buyer. The buyer was planning to purchase a small amount of cannabis when one of the offenders displayed a handgun in his waistband and demanded money from the buyer. The offenders then fled in a silver VW Jetta. The male victim ‘buyer’ — who was with a female — followed the offenders driving the Jetta, and was able to report that the Jetta was last seen heading southbound on Walnut Avenue.
The offenders were described as (1) a male/white about 17-years-old with blond hair, wearing a short sleeve shirt and shorts; and (2) a male/white about 17-years-old with long blond hair in a pony tail, wearing short sleeves and black pants. The offender with the pony tail was reported to have carried the handgun, which was not pulled out of the waistband.
Police spotted the silver Jetta heading southbound on Wilke approaching White Oak. With several police units, a traffic stop occurred at White Oak and Yale Avenue. Arlington Heights police had three in custody at the scene just before 9:30 p.m. Monday.
The Arlington Heights K-9 unit responded to the traffic stop to check the offender’s vehicle. No word on how many were arrested at the traffic stop.
