Elk Grove Village police alerted area police departments about 11:55 p.m. Sunday to be on the lookout for a yellow Penske tractor trailer — its driver a suspect in a stabbing/aggravated battery of two males near the ‘Where Else’ Bar, 1190 East Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village. The offender was described as a male/white in his 40’s with a shaved head, wearing a blue or white striped shirt. The suspect was still armed with a knife after he stabbed a 31-year-old Arlington Heighst man and a 43-year-old man from Conroe, Texas. The stabbing/aggravated battery occurred about 11:40 p.m. Sunday. The yellow Penske tractor trailer had been last seen eastbound on Higgins Road from the “Where Else” bar.
Suspect Wayland A. Smith, 44, of Rock Springs, Wyoming was in custody by 12:20 a.m. Monday. He was arrested near Busse Road and Devon Avenue in Elk Grove Village.
The Arlington Heights man was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center on Biesterfield in Elk Grove Village. The Texas man was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
