Video of extra-alarm fire at Pleasant Run condominiums in Wheeling Friday afternoon.
Wheeling Fire Department fought an extra alarm fire that was reported about 1:10 p.m. Friday at a Pleasant Run Condominium unit, 1101 Pleasant Run in Wheeling. Firefighters received a report that a person was trapped in a townhouse condo unit and quickly called an extra alarm box. Two units with a Mansard roof were well-involved on the second floor and attic on the west side of the building.
Firefighters worked successfully to stop the fire that was raging with a south wind at 20 mph wind gusts up to 40 mph or more (Weather history for Friday, April 2, 2010). Firefighters were prepared on the roof to the east of the condo units that were on fire. A ladder tower from Buffalo Grove and a ladder tower from Northbrook were prepared to fight the fire from above the roof. There was a high risk of this fire traveling eastward through the attic and roof, but the fire was stopped by firefighter operations. Successful interior fire attack prevented the fire from spreading eastward to other units. Firefighters also took precautions to prevent water damage and other damage to the units east of the fire.
No reports of any injuries.
Fire departments from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Long Grove, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Prospect Heights, Schaumburg and others assisted Wheeling Fire Department on the second alarm box fire.
