The driver was described as a male/Hispanic, and the passenger was described as a female/white with long blond hair.
Multiple police squads searched the area and one officer spotted the vehicle southbound on Arlington Heights Road near Hintz Road at about 5:00 p.m. That police squad was already headed northbound when the pickup truck was sighted. The truck turned off quickly on a side street off of Hintz Road west of Arlington Heights Road and the officer lost sight of the truck.
At about 5:20 p.m. a witness reportedly saw a white pickup involved in a hit-and-run at Dundee and Route 53. The report was delayed because the witness didn’t have a cell phone. The witness reported that the victim was following the white pickup truck in the victim’s vehicle. The witness later flagged down a police officer at Rand and Hintz near the Crave parking lot. The witness reported the pickup truck had front-end damage, and that the vehicle was first sighted pulling out of the Gold’s Gym parking lot on to Dundee Road just west of Route 53.
At about 5:25 p.m. an eagle-eyed officer south of Kennicott and Maude saw an old white pickup truck westbound on the local lanes of Palatine Road. At about the same time, the victim of the hit-and-run (driving a silver Saturn) called the police from the BP station at Dundee and Kennicott to report their hit-and-run crash with a white pickup truck and gave a description of the vehicle occupants as a male/Hispanic and female/white with long blond hair.
At 5:35 p.m. an Arlington Heights police officer had the white pickup truck stopped at the Starbucks at Arlington Heights Road and Lillian and had the two suspects in custody. Items stolen from the Lake Arlington crime scene were recovered in the passenger seat of the white pickup truck. The items stolen included a purse, wallet, cash, credit cards, debit cards and a license and other identification.
