Hillside Police Chase Ends in Elk Grove at Oakton and Arlington Heights Road

Hillside Police Department was pursuing a Saturn vehicle about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday. The police pursuit traversed on Oakton Street and Lively Boulevard with Elk Grove Village police assisting Hillside with the pursuit. A crash of some type may have occurred at Higgins and Oakton. The offending driver headed north on Lively Boulevard to the dead end just south of Interstate 90. The driver appeared to be ready to stop, but then proceeded to turn around and head south on Lively Boulevard at a slow speed.

The chase continued westbound on Oakton at about 40 mph with police reporting damage to the fleeing vehicle as it headed toward the T-intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Oakton. The driver headed southbound on Arlington Heights Road, but was soon stopped just south of Oakton and Arlington Heights Road. The male suspect was in custody just before 4:00 a.m. at Oakton and Arlington Heights Road, and taken into custody by Hillside Police Department.

Criminal charges prior to the chase unknown at this time. Elk Grove Village is located about 15 miles west of Hillside, Illinois.

The chase originated in Oak Lawn at 101st Street and Cicero Avenue about 3 a.m., after Oak Lawn police attempted to stop the Saturn, which was observed without working tail lights. Oak Lawn did not pursue the car outside of their jurisdiction. Oak Lawn police notified other communities and the vehicle later became involved in multiple collisions. The vehicle was also reported running red lights in Countryside. Hillside picked up the pursuit on Mannheim Road.

Some of the vehicles the Saturn hit were squad cars. At the end of the chase, windows of the Saturn were busted out and one of the tires was shredded. The offender was driving on the rim of one of the wheels.
