Alan Lauritzen was found mortally wounded with two stab wounds in the chest about 10:45 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2010 near his truck on the Edens Expressway near Tower Road. Alan Lauritzen, of Sparta, Wisconsin, was a father of two.
Northbrook Fire Department and Illinois State Police responded to a report from a passing motorist of a man down next to a semi-trailer truck about 11 a.m. Friday on the northbound Edens Expressway at Tower Road.
Rescue workers found the truck driver was injured with a stab wound. The man was treated with Advanced Life Support — possibly CPR — and was transported to Highland Park Hospital. The man was pronounced dead at 12:07 p.m.
Tips have come in to police reporting that the stabbing was the result of an altercation with another trucker. The fatally wounded trucker, whose name has not been released, lived in Sparta, Wisconsin. The Pehler Trucking company is based out of Arcadia, Wisconsin.
Police investigating with K-9 units were searching the area. The entire northbound expressway was shut down initially about 11:10 a.m., then two right lanes were blocked past 12:30 p.m. during the investigation.
