Florida Freeze: 100,000 Tropical Fish Killed, Stunned Turtles, Record Electric Use

RECORD COLD TEMPERATURES: Florida is known as the only mainland state with a subtropical and tropical climate, but this week bitter cold has stunned Floridians. At Breen Acres Aquatics in Loxahatchee Groves just north of Miami, freezing temperatures formed ice on 76 ponds that hold tropical fish livestock. About 100,000 tropical fish were killed, causing an estimated $535,000 loss.
