FRI DEC 18 2009 LATE REPORT — Arlington Heights police received a report about 11:50 p.m. Friday that two juveniles damaged two mail boxes in the 1500 block of North Highland Avenue. The juveniles were reported to be fleeing westbound on Thomas Avenue. Minutes later police received a second call that juveniles were dragging a reindeer Christmas decoration into the street near Thomas and Walnut Avenue, and destroying a snowman decoration. A male resident of the neighborhood pursued two of the juveniles and watched them enter a home within one block of the criminal damage to property activity. Other neighbors also helped police locate the offenders as homeowners came out of their homes, just after midnight. Police were alerted that one juvenile was ‘now running eastbound on Thomas’ and one juvenile was running southbound on Walnut Avenue, and a third juvenile was running southbound on the easement property near the Arlington Heights water tower at Thomas Avenue and Ridge Avenue.
The white wire-frame reindeer that was left in the street was struck and dragged by an uninvolved vehicle that was passing by while police sorted out the offenders and obtained witness reports.
At 12:20 a.m. Saturday Arlington Heights police were en route to Arlington Heights Police Department headquarters with at least two juveniles in custody. The juveniles were reported to be males about 16-years-old — students of John Hersey High School. The juveniles have a court date of February 3, 2009.
