HONOR KILLING …
Noor Faleh Almaleki died Monday of injuries she suffered when she was run over by her father Faleh Hassan Almaleki on October 20 in a parking lot in Peoria, Arizona. Charges of aggravated assault charge are expected to upgraded soon.
From statements of friends and family, Peoria police said Faleh Hassan Almaleki believed his daughter had become “too Westernized” and had abandoned “traditional” Iraqi values. The Iraqi family moved to the Phoenix area in the mid-1990s. Faleh Hassan Almaleki was angered regarding her Western values, her choice clothing and her resistance to his rules.
Two women were hit by the suspect’s vehicle — Noor Faleh Almaleki, 20, who died Monday, and Amal Edan Khalaf, 43, her friend who had injuries that were not life-threatening.
Almaleki made his way to Mexico City and flew to Great Britain, but was not allowed entry to the country. He was sent back to the United States where he was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Thursday, October 30 2009. He was then extradited to Arizona.
Almaleki is being held in Phoenix, with bond set at $5 million.
Citizens with information is asked to call Silent Witness or the Peoria Police Tip Line at 623-773-7045.
