CBS-owned WBBM-Ch. 2 has posted notice on its Web site today that it intends to reunite its long-ago anchor team of Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson on its 10 p.m. newscast Friday.
Bill Kurtis is lately best known to Chicagoans for his AT&T mobility commercials. Kurtis got his big break after his performance covering the disaster of the 1966 Topeka Tornado. He started at WBBM-TV’s Channel 2 that same year. He worked for WBBM until 1996 with a short stint at CBS Morning News in New York from 1982 to 1985.
Walter Jacobson started with WBBM-TV in 1963 as a news writer and was promoted to full-time reporter in 1968. He moved to WMAQ for a short time in the early 1970’s, returned to WBBM-TV and then co-anchored with Bill Kurtis for 16 years. The two became legendary co-anchors by the early 1980’s.
Rob Johnson is off to attend a wedding.
