Rolling Meadows police guard evidence — the black Mazda CX-9 (top photo) hijacked at about 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Meijer and abandoned in the 300 block of East Algonquin Road, just south of the Ashton of Arlington Heights Condominiums where police thought the suspect may be hiding.
Rolling Meadows police activity in the area of Continental Towers and Meijer store looking for an armed robber who escaped while being transported by two states attorney officers. The escape apparently occurred at or near the Continental Towers at 1701 Golf Road in Rolling Meadows at about 9:45 a.m. Arlington Heights police were actively involved in search and investigation — assisting Rolling Meadows Police Department.
The offender apparently managed to disarm the agents and fled on foot with their weapons — running toward the Meijer store, just east of Continental Towers. The offender then apparently carjacked a black Mazda CX-9 SUV and fled in that vehicle. He was last seen in the vehicle northbound in the Meijer parking lot. He removed an orange shirt that he was wearing and may have been wearing a black, sleeveless vest and jeans.

The suspect is described as a male/white, age 40, bald or having a very short crew cut with gray hair. He is also described as 5′ 7″ to 5’9″ with a thin to medium build. He may have taken off the black vest (possibly windbreaker type vest). He is also described as wearing black Dockers pants or jeans, which he demanded from one of the states attorney agents.

The following is the approximate timeline after the vehicle hijacking at Meijer in Rolling Meadows.
10:20 a.m. –Hijacked vehicle found unoccupied in the 300 block of East Algonquin Road in Arlington Heights by Arlington Heights police officers at about 10:20 a.m. The location of the recovered hijacked vehicle is on the north side of Algonquin Road, about two lots from Boston Blackies restaurant.
10:55 a.m. — Cook County Sheriff, U.S. Marshals, Arlington Heights Police Department, and Rolling Meadows Police Department setup command center at the Wellington parking lot. Eventually, the entire lot is filled with law enforcement vehicles.
11:00 a.m.– ILEAS mutual aid police alarm requested by Arlington Heights police after postal worker reports a man, who matches the description of the suspect, running near the area (ileas.org).
11:05 — Police request aerial search support. Cook County Sheriff’s Air Two responds … searches the area continuously.
11:15 a.m. — Police search the area of the Buddy Foundation and the Pace Bus facility on Algonquin between Arlington Heights Road and Golf Road.
1:45 p.m. — Several schools in the area along Golf Road and Algonquin Road placed in lockdown or ‘soft’ lockdown.
1:50 p.m. — A police search-and-perimeter scene placed under the control of U.S. Marshals.
1:50 p.m. — Cook County Sheriff’s Deputies, U.S. Marshals, Arlington Heights police and other ILEAS members study blueprints of ‘Ashton Apartments.’ South Suburban Emergency Response Team with an armored personnel carrier on the scene.
2:15 p.m. — Falcon Drive is blocked by police between Tonne and Goebbert Road. Police narrowed a possible location of the suspect at a building in the Ashton Arlington Heights Condominiums in the middle of the block.
2:16 p.m. — Forest View Educational Center buses exiting property with police escort.
2:35 pm — Traffic delays in the area of Algonquin Road and Goebbert Road.
Uniformed police officers leave their outer perimeter posts as camouflaged and armored officers arrive closer to a tighter perimeter around the apartment.
Cook County Sheriff’s Deputies heavily armed, protected by armor and camouflaged.
3:00 p.m. — Cook County Sheriff’s Deputies prepare to search several units of apartment condominium building on the south side of Falcon Drive in the middle of the block.
3:05 p.m. (approximate) — Police with flak jackets, shields, armor enter the building and search for the suspect. Snipers placed in position while Cook County Sheriff’s Police Helicopter Air Two circled overhead.
4:55 p.m. — Police give the ‘all clear’ after they discover that Robert Maday is not at the apartment building. Suspect not found after extensive search in apartment units on Falcon Avenue between Goebbert and Tonne.

Who responded to the search for Robert Maday?
The following police units were on the scene. Authorities from the U.S. Marshal’s office, FBI, Illinois State Police and Cook County sheriff’s and officers from police departments, included Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Inverness, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Rosemont, Schaumburg, Wheeling.
The police cars lined the streets in the area, including parking lots behind businesses along Algonquin Road near the apartment.
According to the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police (ssacop.org), SSERT consists of approximately sixty-four (64) officers representing twenty-nine (29) governmental entities. The region of this unit includes agencies from Blue Island, Burbank, Burnham, Calumet City, Chicago Heights, Country Club Hills, Dolton, East Hazel Crest, Flossmoor, Glenwood, Hazel Crest, Homewood, Lynwood, Matteson, Markham, Midlothian, New Lenox, Oak Forest, Park Forest, Posen, Richton Park, Riverdale, Sauk Village, South Holland, Summit, Thornton, Tinley Park, Will County Forest Preserve District, Willow Springs.

What is the background of the fugitive? What was he going to jail for in the first place; as well as the incident in Florida? I’d like to know what the connection between escaping and dangerous is. I can see him being dangerous to those who want to lock him up, as with any animal being placed in a cage, but will he hurt a person not trying to catch him?
