HazMat Involving Chlorine at Pirate Cove Park, Elk Grove

A HazMat Level 2 response was ordered by Elk Village Fire Department at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Pirate’s Cove Theme Park, 901 Leicester Road. The hazardous material reported was a form of chlorine. At least three people received medical attention from paramedics. Some people were complaining of burning eyes and a burning sensation in the chest.

The Pirates Cove Theme Park was evacuated by police and fire personnel. Fire departments from Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows and Roselle assisted Elk Grove Village Fire Department.

Fire personnel were clearing the scene at about 2:10 p.m. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago was informed of some runoff of a chlorine material into their system during the cleanup operation.
