Arlington Heights Police are investigating a stabbing near the front steps of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library just before 6:00 p.m. Saturday. The stabbing victim was found at the corner of Miner Street and Dunton Avenue. Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics treated the victim with life threatening multiple stab wounds at the location near Javier’s Restaurant. Police are investigating how the victim got from the crime scene at the library to the location where he was treated by paramedics at Miner Street and Dunton Avenue.
A possible offender, a locally known homeless male, was placed into custody on the west side of the train station within 15 minutes after the crime was reported. He was transported to the police station.
Police officers originally cordoned off the entire block of Dunton Avenue at 500 North Dunton Avenue, but later reduced the police tape to the area around the steps of the front door of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library at 500 North Dunton Avenue.
Police are also holding a silver Kia Sportage at the northwest corner of Miner Street and Dunton Avenue.
There are possibly witnesses to the stabbing. Police are searching trash bins at the library and at the train station, and are canvassing the neighborhood near the library to see if there are any other witness. Developing …
