Officials at the FBI and the White House believe that computer hackers from a foreign entity sought to gather information on the evolution of both President-elect Barack Obama’s and Senator John McCain’s policy positions for the intent of using that information in negotiations with the next United States presidential administration.
Obama technical experts later speculated the hackers were Russian or Chinese, and security efforts ended the information systems intrusion.
FBI and Secret Service agents warned the Obama campaign: ‘You have a problem way bigger than what you understand … You have been compromised, and a serious amount of files have been loaded off your system.’
