The Sayre Fire worst blaze in nearly 50 years
The Sayre Fire is the worst fire since the 1961 Bel-Air brush fire, which according to Los Angeles Fire Department records is the most disastrous brush fire in the history of Southern California.
The Bel-Air fire burned 6,090 acres and destroyed 484 homes and 21 other buildings according to department records.
The Sylmar fire so far has burned 6,500 acres and destroyed 500 homes, according to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
