Juan C. Guajardo, 30, 440 W. Palatine Road in Palatine, charged with two felonies, reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Guajardo was also charged with two misdemeanors: unlawful possession of a firearm without an identification card (FOID card), and unlawful possession of ammunition without an identification card (FOID card).
After chasing and shooting at another man just before 4:00 a.m. Sunday, police were called and pinpointed the location of the suspect to an apartment unit in the 400 block of West Palatine Road — near downtown Palatine about one-half mile west of Northwest Highway.
With the assistance of mutual aid police Emergency Services Team (EST), Palatine Police were able to apprehend the suspect and recover a gun and ammunition suspected of being involved in the weapon discharge.
EST is part of NIPAS (Northern Illinois Police Alarm System) specifically trained for hostage/barricade incidents, high-risk warrant service, major crime scene searches, search and rescue missions, dignitary protection, and similar tactical incidents. NIPAS involves at least 86 cities and villages in four counties.
