Only minor injuries in a three-car accident at Arlington Heights Road and Hawthorne Avenue about 7:30 a.m. A minivan southbound on Arlington Heights Road apparently made a left turn in front of a minivan that was northbound on Arlington Heights Road. The impact and momentum of that crash carried the two minivans into a third minivan that was waiting at a stop sign on westbound Hawthorne, just east of Arlington Heights Road. The original southbound minivan was sandwiched and turned on its side between the other two minivans.
Only minor injuries reported and no victims were transported to the hospital.
The car accident occurred immediately after a fatal train-pedestrian accident at Northwest Highway and Evergreen Avenue in downtown Arlington Heights.

A man about 50 years old was hit by an eastbound Metra train just after 7:15 a.m. near Evergreen Avenue and Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights. The man died at the scene of the accident. The Metra train was stopped just east of Arlington Heights Road. Car traffic is not blocked by the stopped train. Only Evergreen Avenue is blocked by Arlington Heights police blocking the accident scene. All three Union Pacific train tracks are blocked and all Metra Northwest Line inbound and outbound trains are delayed.
Many residents were alerted that some news was happening in Arlington Heights as news helicopters were hovering overhead for about an hour Friday morning.
