THU MAR 06 2008 — A gunman entered a prominent Jewish seminary in Jerusalem on Thursday night, killing at least eight students and wounding at least nine others, three of them seriously.
While the students prayed, the gunman killed two people at the entrance to the Mercaz Harav yeshiva and then entered the first-floor library, shooting the religious students with gunfire (estimated 500-600 bullets) from a Kalashnikov rifle.
Gunman Killed
A student at the Jerusalem yeshiva Thursday evening shot the gunman who opened fire inside the religious school’s crowded library, neutralizing him before an Israeli soldier confirmed the kill of the offender with an automatic rifle.
Student Yitzhak Dadon said he climbed onto the roof of a nearby building, armed with a rifle, and waited for the gunman to emerge.
“He came out of the library spraying automatic fire … the terrorist came to the entrance and I shot him twice in the head,” he said.
